New York City tap water is world-renowned for its quality and New York Harbor is the cleanest it’s been in 100 years.

We want to keep it that way.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks to be a world class water and wastewater utility, while building a sustainable future for all New Yorkers.

Climate change has created new challenges for water and wastewater utilities across the country. The Environmental Tech Lab will identify innovative solutions to address complex DEP priorities.

The Environmental Tech Lab is a collaboration between the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the New York City Partnership Foundation, the nonprofit affiliate of the Partnership Fund for New York City. We provide companies with expedited paths to testing, expert feedback, access to key decision makers from DEP, and an accelerated go/no-go decision.

We enable public sector climate leaders to source, evaluate, and test new solutions to their most critical challenges.

“This is not technology that ‘moves fast and breaks things’. This is tech that moves fast and fixes things. One challenge at a time, we are transforming our city's essential services and improving daily life for every New Yorker.”

About the Partnership Fund for New York City

The Partnership Fund for New York City amplifies impact with access to large corporate partners and investors so that:

  • Public officials can accelerate change at reduced cost through expanded access to tech expertise and creative solutions.

  • Innovative tech companies gain exposure to NYC’s public agencies, our corporate partners and investors—and the opportunity to demonstrate their solutions at scale.

  • Industry leaders and investors get first look at what some of the world’s most promising tech companies can do.

  • Every New Yorker benefits from a better water system and a more livable city.

Technology in the public interest is changing what's possible.

The Environmental Tech Lab is part of the Partnership Fund for New York City’s “Tech in the Public Interest” strategy, which aims to invest in companies and programs that advance the application of new technologies to address urban challenges, including helping government agencies deliver services more effectively.

Along with the Environmental Tech Lab, the Partnership Fund for New York City operates the Transit Tech Lab in collaboration with the largest transit agencies in America—Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), and NYC Department of Transportation (DOT).
